City Heights: Stories of Resilience

Throughout the pandemic, business owners in City Heights faced challenges that often felt impossible to overcome. To honor their resilience and preserve the depth of their experiences, Pueblo Studio partnered with City Heights CDC to create a narrative curation project centered on the voices of local entrepreneurs. Pueblo Studio interviewed and photographed eight business owners, producing a film that illuminated not only the hardships of staying afloat during a social shutdown but also the creativity, solidarity, and determination that carried them through.

The film premiered at El Borrego Restaurant, where guests were welcomed with a red carpet and standing portraits of each business owner—transforming the space into a gallery of community strength. This curated storytelling experience allowed elected officials, philanthropic partners, and other decision makers to witness the direct human impact of their policies and investments. By elevating the voices and lived stories of those most affected, narrative curation became a powerful tool for shifting perspective, fostering accountability, and inspiring action grounded in the realities of the community.
