Visions to Victory
Pueblo Studio partnered with City Heights Community Development Corporation (CDC) to curate and visually tell the 35-year history of the community’s advocacy against the development of the SR15 freeway. Through this work, Pueblo Studio highlighted not only the community’s resilience and perseverance but also the tangible benefits achieved through decades of collective action.
Central to this effort was the creation of a carefully designed storyboard, a tool of visual storytelling that brings the community’s history to life. This storyboard is poised to serve as both an educational and empowering resource, used at community events and online, to connect today’s residents with the legacy of activism that shapes their neighborhood. It frames contemporary struggles, including the fight against gentrification and displacement, as part of a continuum of intergenerational advocacy, rooted in the knowledge and courage of those who came before.
Through this narrative curation, Pueblo Studio demonstrates how visual storytelling can make history tangible, inspire civic engagement, and affirm collective identity, culminating in the community’s bold declaration: “we are here to stay.” This project exemplifies the transformative power of storytelling to both preserve memory and galvanize action.
